Notes for Qwen3.8-27B

MODEL_ARGS are slime's scripts/models/qwen3.5-27B.sh: Qwen3.8-27B has the Qwen3.5-27B architecture. Its tokenizer adds 7 special tokens and a default system prompt, so it trains on its own rows (data/README.md).

The steps every recipe shares: Running a recipe.

Recipes

#1attune-tp4-pp21,194.3 tokens/s/GPUTP4 PP2max 8,192 tokens/GPU, no recompute, CPU optimizer offload
  • Recompute off and the optimizer on the GPU each speed this model up, but together they do not fit in 141 GB: the tuning run with both changes ran out of memory. This recipe keeps the optimizer on the CPU.
  • No layer is recomputed, so activation memory grows with the tokens per GPU: the tuning run at max 16,384 tokens per GPU ran out of memory. Check the memory before raising --max-tokens-per-gpu.
